Waste not, save more

Kids definitely learn by example. So, why not teach your little ones about the importance of being green while you save money and get a little greener yourself?!

Tips for a greener school year:

  • Pack an eco-friendly lunch that’s sure to please their tummies and keep some trash out of the landfill.
  • When it comes to buying or stocking up on school supplies, opt for recycled materials. This is a great chance for a craft day too. Buy recycled lined paper and have the kids make their own binders with used printer paper, cardboard, newspaper, etc.

While you’re at it, show them how fun the 3 R’s (reduce, reuse, recycle) can be:

  • Empty glass jars: instead of pitching them turn them into planters and have the kids start their own little garden. Plant flowers or herbs that can be used for cooking to save some money on seasonings!
  • Used printer paper, old newspapers, magazines: again, have the kids use these for school projects, arts and crafts day or to make folders, book covers or notebooks for school.
  • Old clothes: their suggestion is to save them for dress up and Halloween. This is fun, but you can also donate to Goodwill, Salvation Army, etc. and provide new clothes for someone who needs them.

Teaching them even a few green tips will help the environment and your wallet. Plus it will provide them with some useful tools for the future.
