Whether you’re a coffee drinker or into tea, there may be one more reason to enjoy every cup. A recent study in the Archives of Internal Medicine found that each cup of coffee (decaf or regular) or tea consumed reduced the risk of type 2 diabetes by 7 percent.
In other words, 3-4 cups per day could mean you’ve reduced your chances of developing type 2 diabetes by a whopping 25 percent. This could be good news for the millions of Americans with type 2 diabetes and those unaware they’re at high risk. Other research also suggests that coffee may reduce the risk of diseases such as prostate cancer, Alzheimer’s, stroke, and Parkinson’s disease.
Of course, before you run out and grab another cup of coffee, the benefits of these yummy beverages are still being discovered and more research is needed. But this study may be more evidence that our diet and lifestyle can play an important role in diabetes prevention.
