This time each year the lights go up, folks get a little jollier (even with a recession), and the message goes out that if you drink and drive you will pay the price. This year is no different.
Driving safe and sober is important year round, but the holiday season is one of the deadliest times of the year for alcohol-related crashes. That’s why highway safety agencies are doing everything they can to remind you that alcohol and driving simply do not mix. Along with DUI checkpoints and more police around town, some states are also using new media like Twitter to get the word out. Even an iPhone app called “R-U-Buzzed” estimates your blood-alcohol level and let’s you know if you’ve overdone it. Of course, there are many ways to stay safe over the holidays, but the best advice – if you drink, don’t drive.
