Job losses, rising food insecurity and all around tight budgets mean some families are finding it difficult to celebrate Thanksgiving. But many organizations are stepping up to help their neighbors in need.
Food pantries, soup kitchens and other community groups can help put all (or at least most) of the trimmings on the table. And with the recession not taking a break over the holidays, a lot of folks could use a hand. Food banks are seeing even more people in line these days, and much of the increase is due to reduced incomes. In some cases, folks who donated to food banks last Thanksgiving are showing up this year in need themselves. Keep in mind, whether you need a meal or want to help out, there are lots of ways to get stuffed, give thanks, and help others this Thanksgiving.
