With the environment and your wallet in mind, some grocery stores and retailers are moving away from plastic bags and offering incentives for using reusable shopping bags.
Starting in November, Target stores nationwide will begin offering a 5-cent discount for every reusable bag you use. A trial run of the program showed a 58 percent drop in plastic bag use. Not a bad start. CVS drugstores will also give you $1 back for every four purchases you make without asking for plastic. With billions of plastic bags sitting in landfills, these small steps can go a long way. And with more companies giving discounts for skipping the plastic bag, how can any smart shopper afford to not make the switch?
