A new research study finds that for diabetics facing mild heart disease, medication is just as good as surgery. According to a study involving over 2,500 patients, those who only took medications were just as likely to be alive after five years as those who had surgery such as angioplasty or bypass.
This is good news because there is always a larger risk involved with surgery, such as infection. Plus, diabetes patients are more prone to complications and surgical patients are likely to miss time from work while they recover.
But, those with more advanced heart disease are still better off having surgery.
If you or a loved one has diabetes, it’s important that you treat your condition. Our sister site, The Beehive, has a great resource section for those who are fighting the good fight against diabetes.
