How Green Is Your Collar?

August 27, 2008 by Colin Lovett

By Anthony Myers – PIC Current Contributor

Everyone knows about blue-collar jobs and white-collar jobs. But did you know about green collar jobs? Green is the new black, so here’s your chance to hip yourself to the revolution. Did you know we could bring in more jobs without spending mucho dead presidents? We can even do it without relying on foreign investment and further debt!

Americans from Portland to Pittsburgh are creating thousands of new jobs in a new sector of the economy; the green economy.

Here is some of what’s happening right now:

  • Solar Richmond in California is working in its community to install solar panels for low-income folks in the Bay area. They have a goal of creating 100 new green-collar jobs and 50 solar installations by 2010, according to .
  • According to WRD Environmental, GreenCorps Chicago has trained more than 300 people in their 10 month sustainable landscapes training program.
  • The Green Jobs Act of 2007, which would set up worker-training program and provide grants for at-risk-youth, has been referred to subcommittee for a vote in the U.S. Congress according to www.govtrack.us.
  • Green For All, a great non-profit group that works to bring green collar jobs to low-income communities, is hosting a national day of action on September 27th. Find and event, or even host one by visiting Green Jobs Now.

By investing in green jobs, American workers will be at the cutting edge of green technology and know-how. A green infrastructure also improves people’s lives, bolsters the economy and stops global warming.

By training thousands of workers in the green sector, our country will be transformed into a more caring, sustainable and livable place. Can you dig that? I knew that you could.

I looked over your blog and it looks really good. Do you ever do link exchanges on your blog roll? If you do, I’d like to exchange links with you.
